Lunch Date
My mom used to say, "Complain less and get more blessings." Maybe she still says it, but I'm not home to hear her say it. Anyways, yesterday morning was a little crazy, and I ran out the door without eating any breakfast. When I got to work I pulled out my wallet to find that I had left my debit card at home and only had 5 dollars on me! I thought...how am I going to pay for breakfast and lunch? I called Adam and told him the situation. He told me he'd bring me some lunch, but I convinced him to just stay and go to lunch with me instead. Now, this normally wouldn't have been possible, but this is a test week for Adam so he didn't have any classes that he needed to get back for. So I guess my bit of misfortune turned into a blessing. We had a yummy lunch at Teresa's Pizzaria and then sat and talked for a while. It was a really nice break in the middle of my work day!

Weary
In my pregnancy, I haven't been very sick at all. It really has been a huge blessing in my life that I am grateful for. I have been very tired though, actually make that exhausted. When I get home from work at six there are two things on my mind...1. Eat some food and 2. Go to bed! Honestly, it's all I can do to stay up past 8:30. Last night was no different. I came home, ate and crawled into bed around 8:15pm. Adam is always close behind me, turning all the lights off except for the lamp in our bedroom. He always sits down on the bed I'm trying to sleep in and pulls out his scriptures. He begins reading out loud where we left off the night before and I listen. Last night we were reading about becoming weary and I thought, "Boy, is that what I've become!" I'll be honest, each night the thought crosses my mind that we should do family scripture study, but then I decide I'm too tired and go to bed.
As Adam was reading last night, I was reminded of one of the many important reasons for marriage...to have someone to lift you up when you're weary! Adam has been so wonderful at remembering to have family scripture study. Even though I'm tired, he doesn't push me to do what I already know I should be doing. He just amends the situation in a way that allows us to still do something that is a little difficult for me right now. His quiet example has really helped me in understanding new ways to help build and strenghthen our marriage in the day-to-day things.

Typewriters
At work I do a lot of filing for the billing department. There is this long wall of filing cabinets filled with folders that all have typed and uniform looking labels. I needed to file some things today that did not have folders. I asked Joan, a sweet older co-worker, where she made her standard looking labels. She said she made them on the typewriter and that I could use hers to make some more. I replied, "I've never used a typewriter and don't know how to do it." She looked at me like I was joking and said, "You don't know how to use a typewriter? Why, that should be a mandatory class in high school." I smiled, thinking..."I didn't even know people still use typewriters. Why would they teach that in school?" It just made me think about at what a fast pace technology is moving. I remember before my family had internet and email...and now it seems I can't live without it! I wonder what it will be like in 20 years...Wednesday, January 16, 2008
NOT slipping on the ice
It is such a beautiful day! With the sun shining (not a common occurance during Cleveland winters), I decided to take a little walk outside. As eager as I was to get out of the office and get some fresh air, I decided not to change out of my heels and into my boots. I figured that I could be careful enough not to slip on any ice, besides, a lot of it had melted away with the sunshine. It felt so wonderful to be outside, and it definitly lifted my spirits. I love being out in the sunshine, and I've really missed it this winter. I carefully took a walk around downtown and managed to make it back without even one akward step! Once inside my work building, I quickly went up the stairs when...GASP...panic shot through me because I realized my foot had completely missed the step. I hit the ground with both hands and my pants got all dusty and dirty around the knees. As I looked up there was a group of men walking by...none of which made eye contact with me. They began laughing as soon as they got past me. Welcome back to third grade recess! Really, I just had to start laughing at that point because I could manage the slippery ground, but not the solid stuff. Oh well...
Do you think he's excited?
A few mornings ago I wasn't feeling well and decided I needed a day home from work to just relax and kind of recenter myself. We were completely out of milk and eggs, so Adam offered to go and get some before he had to go to school. I was still in bed when he got back, and he came up to the bedroom saying, "I got something for you." He then pulled this out of the bag:
I told him jokingly that I don't use pacifiers! He replied, "Well, its for all of you," while making big motions around my stomach with his hands. I'm not even showing yet, so it really makes me worried as to how he's going to picture me when I am actually showing. Nevertheless, it was very cute to see him so excited.

Christmas in Houston
So, I know it's a little late to be posting about our Christmas, but I really haven't had a chance to do it since we've gotten back. We went to Houston this year to spend Christmas with the Nelson side of the family. It was a very nice Christmas and very WARM...in the 70s the whole time we were there. It was my first Christmas away from my family, and even though I got homesick everyone did a wonderful job of helping it feel like Christmas. It looks like I'm blinking in all the pictures I'm posting, but I still couldn't open my eyes at this point.

It must be a brother thing, but for some reason they felt a need to open thier mouths really wide to show their excitement!

Laura's on the Nest!
And it came to pass that Adam knew his wife, and she became heavy with child and did become exeedingly emotional ALL THE TIME. - Adam 1:19.
Ok, it's not really scripture, but it should be.
Yes, you can chalk up another grad school wife that is pregnant. We are expecting the baby around mid-august.
I rather enjoy using my eyes...
So this is a quick post for those of you who were aware that for about the past month I've been pretty much blind because no matter what I did, my eyes refused to open. Well, I have good news...as of December 29th I have had no issues with opening and closing my eyes! So, if you want to play games or watch a movie or put me to work...I'm more than capable of doing those things now! I think this goes without saying, but I am so grateful that I am able to see again. I will never take my eye sight for granted again; it is such a blessing.
