Easter

My mom always made holidays really fun growing up.  There were a lot of traditions, and she went out of her way to make sure we created a lot of happy memories.  I'm not as awesome as my mom, but I am trying to be better about doing things that will create good memories for my children.  Charlotte is 2, but this is technically her first time celebrating Easter. I figured I better "hop to it" this year and make it fun.

Earlier in the week we had Kaia come over to make Easter bunny baskets.  It was so fun, but we're a little sad because Kaia is moving across the country next month.

Charlotte made a basket for her and for Jonas.

We had an Easter egg hut at church Friday morning.  Little Miss loved looking for the eggs and was even more happy when she realized there was candy inside of them.  This girl is a candy junkie!

My friend's family makes Resurrection Rolls for Easter.  I loved this idea because I feel like it's a great way to teach the kids about the reason we celebrate Easter.  Charlotte had fun with this and was completely amazed when we opened the roll and the marshmallow was gone!

We colored eggs.

Sunday morning Charlotte got to find the eggs we had colored and her Easter basket.  She also helped little brother discover what was in his basket.  We tried to get a good picture of them together, but there was just too much excitement going on.  This is the best we got.

Thoughts on Bigger Babies

For anyone who doesn't remember Charlotte as a baby, she was a shrimp... always in the 25th or lower percentile for weight and never above the 75th percentile for height.  It's been a little interesting with Jonas being a bigger baby.  I get completely different comments from strangers when I'm out with him than I did with Charlotte as a baby.  People would always ooh and aah over how Charlotte looked just like a "little baby doll."  This past week these are the two comments I got about Jonas, "So is he 14 or 15 months?" and "Is he starting to talk yet?"  Answer to both questions, "Um, no...he's only 7 months."
So now to the point....I do the exact same thing, and I know how old he is.  Because he's bigger I feel like I often expect more from him than he should be doing by this point developmentally.  I keep finding myself having thoughts like, "Shouldn't you be crawling by now? or eating what we're eating? and why don't you have a job yet?"  Okay, maybe not the last one.  I don't have these thoughts in a "I wish you would grow up faster" kind of way." I just find that I have to make an effort to ensure that my expectations for Jonas correlate with his age and not his size.  By the way, I love my big baby.  There's just so much of him to snuggle (when he'll let me)!!!

Pretend

Charlotte is obsessed with the word "pretend."  She uses it multiple times a day.  So tonight as I was getting Jonas in his jammies I did't pay much attention to her saying, "I want to pretend my pajama shirt is pants."  She sure caught my attention a few minutes later when I saw her running around like this:

7 Months

I can't believe I've been looking at this cute face for seven months!  I don't know how long he is, but when I took him to the doctor last week when he was sick, he weighed 20lbs 1oz.  He is a very easy baby.  Toys will entertain him for quite a while.  All the toys Charlotte wasn't interested in as a baby are finally being put to good use!

Bathtime Buddies

Now that Jonas is a steady sitter, he and Charlotte are the best of bathing buddies.

This little guy also LOVES to be in the water.  Bath or shower....he's in heaven.  We've also discovered that Jonas has a little bit of a temper.  He gets mad (full out cry almost turned tantrum) whenever we're holding him and walk past the bathroom.  How dare we not give him a bath multiple times a day!  It's pretty funny right now.  I'm sure those tantrums won't be so funny when he's older.

On a bummer note...Charlotte now has what Jonas had last week.  The doctor was sure Jonas was just teething...we're pretty sure she was wrong.  Unless teething is contagious.

Waiting

We have quite a bit of waiting to do here today.
Ants have taken over my home.  Yesterday I chose to retaliate with my favorite weapon...Terro Ant Killer.  It's always taken care of the job.  Plus, I love watching them drink to their death.

It's the closest I think I'll ever come to feeling like a villian.  Wait #1: Ants to be dead.

Jonas spiked a fever of 102 yesterday.  The poor little guy was miserable and could hardly stay awake.  He wailed when he was awake.  We spent most of the day like this:

I took him to the doctor in the afternoon.  Turns out he has a tooth coming in...I had no idea they could get that high of a fever from teething.  Charlotte was a pleasant teether.  Not this guy.  He was up from 12:30 to 4:45 this morning.  I am beat.  Wait #2: Tooth to come in...please hurry so I can sleep again.

My first nephew is scheduled to be born today.  Unfortunately his parents reside in Houston so I won't get to meet him in person yet.  Wait #3: Birth and pictures of Baby Boy Hurst!

Enjoyin' the Sunshine

We couldn't help but take advantage of the nice weather we've had this week.  We had a great little family picnic outside.  I love my people.

Staying

Well it's now official!  We found out today that our family will be making Cleveland home for another three years while Adam does his residency at St. Vincent Charity Hospital.  We are thrilled to have been placed with this program!  We love our friends that we've made here in Ohio and the beautiful Cleveland summers.  As for the winters....well, I told Adam we're moving to a place with a garage.
