Jonas Robert Nelson
I quite literally spent this labor day laboring. I began having contractions the evening before, and they got pretty intense around 1:30 am so we headed to the hospital on Monday, September 6th. I got all set up...IVs, epidural, blood pressure cuff, etc. and after some complications with the epidural (I'll spare you the details), we waited quite comfortably. Around 8am the doctor came into to check on me, and I was dilated to a 9. She told me to call as soon as I felt a need to push. Well, two hours passed by without feeling such a need. Dr. Fisher returned wondering why things weren't seeming to progress and it turned out that my tailbone was hooked and in the baby's way for him to be able to descend enough for me feel an urge to push. So, since I was dilated to a ten and this wasn't my first delivery, she decided to have me push anyway. I pushed for ten minutes and with a little convincing from the doctor, Baby Jonas arrived at 11:03 a.m. The little big guy surprised everyone when he was put on the scales and weighed 9 lbs. 12 oz. in fact, they reset the scale and measured him a second time.
I'm just glad he decided to come on his due date and not hang around for another week or so. We're in love with him!
But Charlotte is obsessed with him. I was really having a hard time with how Charlotte was going to handle everything before the baby was born. I was worried that she would have a difficult time with me being away for a few days. I worried about the wrong thing. I should have worried about where I would stand on her "cool" list after he came. She's almost forgotten that I exist. Everytime she'd come to the hospital she would walk right by me and get a huge smile on her face as she ran to "Baby Jonas."
She had the same reaction when we brought him home from the hospital this morning. She stays right by his side.
I truly feel blessed for the children I've been given to love. I don't know how I got to be so spoiled to be able to do exactly what I've always wanted to do with my life, but I am grateful. Life is beautiful.
